Privacy Policy

1. Our approach to privacy

SunGuard AI is built privacy-first. The core of how we protect you is simple: your photos never leave your device. When SunGuard analyzes your skin, that analysis runs locally on your phone using on-device intelligence. We do not upload, store, transmit, or have access to your photos, and we cannot see the images you capture. This policy explains the limited information SunGuard does handle, and the choices you have.

2. Information we handle

Photos and skin analysis (stays on your device). SunGuard processes images you capture entirely on your device to provide skin and sun-related insights. These images, and the analysis derived from them, remain on your device and are not sent to us or to any third party. They are stored locally on your device and are not synced to our servers.

Location (used to retrieve UV information). To show you the ultraviolet (UV) index for your area, SunGuard uses your device location and sends location coordinates to our UV and weather data provider, Open-Meteo, to retrieve local UV data. You can use approximate location, and you can turn location access off at any time in your device settings (some features will be limited without it).

Subscription information. SunGuard offers paid tiers (The Tracker and The Guardian). Purchases are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play and managed through our subscription provider, RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status (for example, active or expired) and a non-identifying purchase identifier. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Account information (if applicable). We may collect an email address to create an optional account and restore purchases across devices.

Device and usage data. To keep the app working and improve it, we and our providers may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, and crash logs. We currently use no third-party analytics provider; if we adopt one, we will update this policy.

We do not collect your photos, we do not sell your information, and we do not use your information for third-party advertising.

3. How we use information

We use the limited information above to: provide and maintain the app and its features; retrieve local UV data; manage subscriptions and restore purchases; diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the app; and comply with legal obligations. We do not use your information to diagnose, screen for, or make decisions about any disease or medical condition.

4. How we share information

We share information only with service providers who help us run SunGuard, and only as needed for them to perform that role. These currently include: Apple, Google, RevenueCat (subscriptions), and Open-Meteo (UV and weather data, receives location coordinates only). We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Data retention

Because your photos and skin analysis remain on your device, you control them: deleting them on-device, or deleting the app, removes them. We retain the limited account and subscription information we hold only as long as needed for the purposes described here or as required by law.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the limited information we handle. The strongest protection is structural: by keeping your images on your device, we reduce what could ever be exposed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold, to opt out of certain processing, and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us at privacy@sunguard.app. You can also control location and other permissions at any time in your device settings.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA) and residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws may exercise the rights described above. Note that we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

8. Consumer health data (Washington, Nevada, and similar laws)

Some state laws, including the Washington My Health My Data Act, define "consumer health data" broadly. To the extent any information SunGuard handles is treated as consumer health data, you have rights to access it, to withdraw consent, and to have it deleted, and we will not collect or share such data beyond what is necessary to provide a feature you request without your consent. See our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for more information about how we handle consumer health data.

9. Children's privacy

SunGuard is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at privacy@sunguard.app and we will delete it.

10. Where information is processed

SunGuard is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, understand that the limited information we handle may be processed in the United States.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
